Acquiring dynamic characteristics of a system is an important issue for predicting and evaluating the system’s performance in early development stages in order to shorten the development time as well as to meet required design specifications. A technique for extracting the system identification by utilizing numerical solutions - modal and frequency response analysis is presented. The proposed technique is applied to “Cantilevered four stage SMT machine”. The technique is shown to be a powerful tool for evaluating system’s dynamic performance and for refining mechanical design and control algorithm for the structurally flexible SMT machine.
